Woman Killed, Alleged Drunk Driver Seriously Injured After Long Island SUV Crash

A woman was killed and a man who was allegedly driving drunk was seriously injured when an SUV crashed into a pole overnight on Long Island, police said.

It happened just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8 in Southampton on County Road 51 just south of Suffolk Community College in the southbound lane. 

Responding officers located the 2011 Nissan Pathfinder that had crashed into a metal pole with two occupants in the vehicle, Lt. Susan C. Ralph of the Southampton Town Police Department said.

The officers removed the passenger and performed CPR until Flanders Ambulance transported the victim to Peconic Bay Medical Center where the passenger was pronounced dead. 

The driver was airlifted by Suffolk County Aviation to Stony Brook Hospital in serious condition. 

The passenger has been identified as Liliana Ner-Reyes, 41, of Riverhead, and her family has been notified, police said. 

The driver, identified as Juan Carlos Sapon Torres, 27, of Mastic Beach, has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

Southampton Town Police detectives responded and are continuing the investigation into the crash. New York State Troopers responded to assist with accident reconstruction.
